Our Management

After being closed in January 2021 for some needed repairs, the Chautauqua Board of Directors engaged Chester Trabucco, who as operator, was tasked to re-open and re-imagine the Chautauqua. The vision was to bring the Chautauqua Lodge back to its rightful status as one of the premier places to stay and play on the Long Beach Peninsula. Trabucco’s company, Long Beach Hospitality Ventures LLC, completed the necessary upgrades and fully reopened the resort on Memorial Weekend 2021.

Trabucco is a Pacific Northwest native who grew up across the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. As a developer his portfolio includes hotel re-development and operations – biggest notably the redevelopment of the Hotel Elliott in downtown Astoria to that of a boutique luxury property. In 2005 the Hotel Elliott's historic renovation project was recognized by the State of Oregon as “the project within the state having the biggest economic impact on its downtown core.”

Since then, Trabucco has enjoyed a reputation as one of a handful of inventive entrepreneurs partly responsible, along with the City of Astoria and a few non-profits, for the renaissance of that small coastal fishing and logging town into the destination site it is today.

Later, also in Astoria, Trabucco, along with partners and high-school classmates Bill and Sara Orr, took on a similar restoration project in upgrading both the reputation and appeal of the 116-room Astoria Riverwalk Inn (the former iconic Red Lion Hotel) built on pilings and overlooking the marina and Columbia River. Within just two years it was ranked as high as one of the top three hotels in the City of Astoria.

Vision- 2023 and Beyond

The Chautauqua Resort and Conference Center is a multi-year work-in-progress. Over a dozen of the condominiums have been completely renovated top-to-bottom in just the past year and nearly two-thirds of the hotel building has seen upgrades ranging from newly-tiled baths, contemporary plank flooring, updated linens and artwork, and modern technology touches such as 50” Smart TV’s and USB/AC docking ports. Recently (April 2023) we’ve painted the exterior of the restaurant and even added a wellness studio onsite. We’ve just completed the finishing touches of our expansive dune-side fire pit with a wrap-around glass wind screen along with an expansion of our onsite fish-cleaning station. Columbia Coffee Roasters “Thundermuck!” coffee is now part of our daily offerings, as are “check-in cookies” each afternoon!

We invite you to come visit and enjoy the many improvements that have just recently made their way into the Chautauqua experience!
