Dark Harbour Tiki Bar

Welcome to the newest destination on the Long Beach Peninsula, where the misty Pacific coastline meets the vibrant spirit of the tropics. Dark Harbour Tiki Bar sets sail at the Chautauqua Resort and Conference Center. Here, guests are invited to discover a haven where coastal mystery blends seamlessly with island magic, creating an atmosphere that’s both enchanting and inviting.

Step inside and you’ll find yourself transported to a mariner’s hideaway, with a year’s-long project of passion revealing hand-tooled and wood-burned wooden slatted walls, pitched bamboo roofs over each seating area, weathered nautical relics, and the warm glow of dimmable blue overhead lights and customized hanging lanterns. The bar’s menu offers a true voyage for the senses, featuring rum-forward cocktails like the Harbour Hurricane and Black Sand Daiquiri, as well as island-inspired fare such as pineapple-glazed ribs, coconut shrimp, and fresh poke.

“Dark Harbour is a place for stories,” says co-owner Jason Alexander. “It’s where you can imagine the sailors who once braved these waters, then raise a glass to the adventures still ahead.” The name itself pays homage to Long Beach’s rich maritime past, reflecting a coastline that is both beautiful and unpredictable, while inviting guests to linger, laugh, and lose track of time.

Located across from the lobby of Chautauqua Resort, Dark Harbour brings a new level of escapism to Long Beach. Led by co-owners Robyn Murphy and Jason Alexander—known for their acclaimed work at Tacoma’s Devil’s Reef and Gilman House Room 428—the restaurant delivers not just the classic tiki offerings like rumaki and musubi, but also innovative delights such as coffee-rubbed steak, several burgers, niçoise salad, salmon chowder, oysters on the half shell, and comforting small plates. “Our vision is to create a unique space where you can take a vacation from your vacation in a dark nautical setting while sipping on some original exotic cocktails as well as featuring classics from a well-rounded and diverse back bar that is approachable, yet esoteric,” shares Alexander.

The timing of Dark Harbour’s arrival couldn’t be better, coinciding with Chautauqua’s ongoing renovations and the return of a quality dining experience for both guests and locals. “We were looking for the right timing and the perfect fit and certainly feel like Robyn and Jason helped us deliver on both. The tiki bar theme is perfect for its uniqueness, and they have arrived just as Chautauqua’s many renovations are firmly taking shape,” said Chester Trabucco, the owner of the resort’s management company. The excitement is building as Murphy and Alexander prepare to deliver their signature brand of dark nautical escapism to the Chautauqua Resort.
